Introduction:
CDRA
(Clandeboye and District Recreation Association)
is a non profit community organization which promotes
and runs soccer programs at the house league level for children and adults. The
area served includes, but is not limited to: Clandeboye, Petersfield, Netley,
Matlock, Breezy Point, Oak Hammock and points in between. Other teams that we
compete with come from Selkirk, East Selkirk,
South St. Andrews
and Mapleton. At this time our annual registered
soccer enrolment is in the area of 175 children. We also organize a weekly adult
casual league which attracts approximately 50 participants.
CDRA
also operates the outdoor skating
facility in Clandeboye and are aggressively pursuing a revitalization of that
venue.
History:
The
CDRA
was formed in the 1980’s in order to streamline and amalgamate the
existing recreation organizations. The Clandeboye Skating Club was responsible
for the operation of the skating rink, and the Clandeboye Community Club was
responsible for summer sports. The two organizations were combined, a
constitution drawn up and an executive elected. With the decline in the
popularity of baseball, soccer was introduced, and a pitch was created on the
existing baseball diamond in Petersfield. A second mini pitch was also located
in Petersfield due to availability of land.
As the sport has
continued to grow through the years, field availability and deterioration have
become an issue. In the fall of 2003 it was decided that the development of new
pitches on available land, immediately adjacent to the Petersfield Curling Club,
would be undertaken. As of the spring of 2005 surveying and leveling had began
and grass will be seeded as weather permits.
